Botryogen is a sulfate mineral with the formula MgFe3+(SO4)2(OH)·7H2O, crystallizing in the monoclinic system. It has a Mohs hardness of 2-2.5, typically red or yellow in color, with a vitreous luster, a specific gravity of 2.04-2.14. Its streak is yellow.
